Past Events Wishes Fulfilled and Water Flows… First
Well Completed!
A simple and deeply spiritual ceremony
was held on December 10, 2005 to celebrate the
completion of the first well in India by the non-profit
1008 Wells Foundation. This act of generosity means
that more than 120 villagers in a remote village
now have access to clean water without having to
walk for miles. |
|
Held at the Orlando campus
of the Hindu University of America, the chief guest
Jagdish Ghimire, the
South Asia Area Representative for World Neighbors,
emphasized “small changes can make dramatic
improvements in the lives of impoverished people
around the world. So many woman and children suffer
because of the lack of clean water.” |
| Water from the first well was brought from India
for the special ceremony. Coupled with the water
from local streams, parks and oceans, all attendees
had the chance to symbolically join in celebration
with the village residents of Sinji Gram Panchayat. |

One of the highlights of the evening was
when 13 year old Mira Aggarwal donated all of her
birthday
money received the week prior to the 1008 Wells Foundation.
She said, “My birthday was coming up and I
didn’t want anything, and why keep money in
my wallet when I can do something great with it?”
With the encouragement from her parents, Gauri
and Dr. Avanish Aggarwal, and a matching grant
from her grandfather, Braham Aggarwal, she raised
$2,500 for the next well project. Her selfless
act of generosity will surely inspire others to
follow the lead of this remarkable young girl to
bring water to the thirsty and poor villagers of
India.Special Events for 1008
